The Invertek Optidrive E2 is a frequency inverter that drives a conveyor belt’s motor and can be started/stopped from a robot’s digital I/O. This guide covers wiring it to the conveyor, to a robot, to three-phase power, and setting the motor’s nameplate parameters.
What you need
- Conveyor belt with an Invertek Optidrive E2 frequency inverter
- A robot (or other controller) with a 0V and a digital output (DO) available
- Three-phase power supply
- Invertek Optidrive E2 manual (v3.3)
Check: the terminal wiring below (earth, black, grey, brown, left to right) reflects one specific installation. Confirm the terminal numbers for your drive against page 17 of the manual before wiring.
Steps
1. Connect the Optidrive to the conveyor belt
- On the bottom of the Optidrive, connect the cables left to right: earth, black, grey, brown.
2. Connect the Optidrive to the robot
- Get a cable with two wires.
- Connect one wire from 0V (robot) to IO 1 (Optidrive).
- Connect the other wire from DO (robot) to IO 2 (Optidrive).
3. Connect the Optidrive to three-phase power
- If you’re not sure how to make the power cable, ask the workshop for help. On the top of the Optidrive, connect the cables left to right: earth, black, grey, brown.
4. Fill in the motor’s nameplate specifications
- Press and hold the hexagon-shaped button.
- The screen should display
P1. - Press the hexagon-shaped button again to edit this parameter.
- Press the up/down arrow buttons to move to another parameter.
- Some parameters depend on how you’re using the conveyor — read the manual, page 17 for the full list.
- P7: set to the motor’s rated (nameplate) voltage, in volts.
- P8: set to the motor’s rated (nameplate) current, in amps.
- P9: set to the motor’s rated (nameplate) frequency, in Hz.
- P12: set to
0if you want to start/stop the drive using the robot’s digital I/O instead of the keypad.
