Important buttons on Fanuc Teach pendant
When working with a teach pendant the buttons may be quite unclear at first so here are commonly used buttons with their name and function. An image with annotation is posted below.
Teach pendant type: A05B-2801-C395
1. Deadman Switches
· Function: These are the switches located on the back of the pendant. You must hold them down (half-pressed) when jogging the robot or running programs.
· Importance: When releasing the switch (or pressing it too hard) it stops the robot immediately, preventing accidents or unexpected movements during programming, this is not a preferred way to stop so use it in emergencies.
2. Teach Pendant Mode Selector
· Function: You can turn on or off the teach pendant, also called Teach or Auto mode.
· Importance: In TEACH mode, you can directly control and program the robot; in AUTO mode, the robot follows the programmed path automatically.
3. Emergency Stop Button
· Function: Pressing this button instantly stops all robot movement.
4. Jog Keys
· Function: These buttons let you manually move the robot in different directions or rotate it around specific axes, shift must be pressed before jogging.
· You can change movement for linear path or joint by selecting the tool/ userframe.
5. F-Keys (F1 - F5)
· Function: These keys correspond to options on the screen.
6. Frame Key
· Function: This key changes the coordinate system between WORLD, TOOL, USER, and JOINT mode.
7. Line-by-line Button
· STEP Function: Allows for step-by-step execution of the program, which is useful for testing.
· CYCLE START Function: Starts the execution of the program in continuous motion.
8. RESET Button
· Function: Resets alarms and errors on the controller.
· Importance: After an error or emergency stop, the RESET button is used to clear any faults.
9. EDIT Key
· Function: Opens program editing mode.
10. Menu Button
· Function Opens a list of functions and the error log, you can also change settings and setup like making a tool frame.
11. Program explorer
· Function Opens a list of programs.
12. Open current program
· Function Opens last edited program in the corresponding line.
13. Register
· Function Opens the register, you can see the robot position register and variables and edit them there.

. The Abort function is important if call a program in another program you need to use abort to call another program
